Pre-admission interview
Before the birth, you are asked to make an appointment for a pre-admission interview so we can review your previous medical history and discuss a plan of care for your labour. You will have the opportunity to ask questions about your pregnancy and the birth and organise classes if required.
It is best to book your interview before 20 weeks of your pregnancy.

Childbirth education classes
Jessie McPherson Private Hospital offers a full range of childbirth education classes to prepare you and your partner for childbirth and parenting. Partners and support people are welcomed and encouraged to attend all education sessions.
The delivery
The birthing suite
The birthing suite has 10 modern delivery rooms which include facilities such as ensuites, telephones and televisions.
Your labour and delivery is a very special time and we encourage you to discuss any individual preferences with your obstetrician. Bean bags, balls, aromatherapy and Tens machines are available in the birthing suites.
An anaesthetist is available 24-hours-a-day in the event an epidural is requested.
Patients usually stay for a few hours after delivery before being transferred to the post natal ward. The baby will remain with the parents unless transfer to special care nursery is required.
Following normal delivery, discharge home is on day 5 after 4 nights.
Following Caesarean delivery, discharge home is on day 6 after 5 nights.
Caesarean section delivery
Should you require a Caesarean section, this will be preformed in the operating suites on Level 3. Assistance will be provided to both you and your partner by the staff in the operating suite and also by one of our highly trained midwives. If you choose, every attempt is made to allow you to be with and feed your baby in the Recovery Room after the delivery.
Special Care Nursery
Our facilities include a Special Care Nursery for the care of unwell and premature babies over 32+ weeks. We also have access to a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, ensuring your baby also can receive the best level of care possible.
Jessie McPherson Private Hospital has private paediatricians to provide 24 hour-a-day coverage for our Special Care Nursery.
Lactation Support
We have a team of experienced midwives to assist you with breast feeding your baby during your hospital stay as well as lactation consultants on staff. Following discharge you may return to the breast feeding clinic if required.

Physiotherapy and education
Post natal physiotherapy classes are held on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10.30 to 11.30am. All mothers are encouraged to attend these sessions
Cardiology and Cardiothoracics
Following the long-established tradition of quality care and innovation, Jessie McPherson Cardiac Care Unit offers services in acute and interventional cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery and diagnostic cardiology.
The science of cardiac health care has advanced dramatically in recent years. Improvements in surgical procedures, cardiac medicine and rehabilitation programs now offer cardiac patients excellent prospects for complete recovery.
Recent upgrading of services and new equipment now allows the management of interventional procedures such as coronary angioplasty, intra coronary stenting and balloon valvuloplasty.
Most excitedly, work is currently progressing on the installation of a 320 slice CT scanner. This will provide revolutionary non-invasive coronary and cardiac imaging and improve diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities.
Our specialist medical staff includes cardiologists, cardiothoracic and cardiac anaesthetists. This highly skilled team regularly perform a range of diagnostic and surgical cardiac procedures including angiograms, angioplasties, coronary artery bypass and stenting, echocardiograms, valve repairs and replacements and pacemaker insertions.
We are now able to provide a service to adolescent patients requiring cardiac surgery or procedures with the appointment of a Cardiothoracic Surgeon specialising in adolescent surgery. This allows us to be one of only very few private hospitals able to provide such a specialised service.
The cardiac care unit is equipped with the latest cardiac monitoring and equipment. A High Dependency Unit is available for acutely ill patients and our Intensive Care Unit allows for the best in immediate post-operative observation and care.

Gastrosciences
Gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery are specialist fields which require sophisticated and skilful diagnosis with careful intervention to achieve the best outcomes.

The gastrosciences ward accommodates both medical and surgical patients, and incorporates a 4 bed High Dependency Unit for those who are acutely ill. We also have a highly advanced Intensive Care Unit providing postoperative/ procedural observation and care.

The Neurosciences ward has a High Dependency Unit for patients who are acutely ill with our highly advanced Intensive Care Unit allowing for the best in post-operative observation and care. The High Dependency Unit is utilised in the post-operative care of craniotomy and spinal surgery patients.

Vascular surgery
Vascular surgery is a subspecialty of general surgery in which disease of the vascular system or arteries and veins are managed.
