Recent Improvements at Jessie McPherson Private Hospital
Introduction of Adolescent Cardiothoracic Surgery
Andrew Cochrane is a cardiac surgeon, with 15 years of consultant experience in both adult and paediatric cardiac surgery. He has now joined Jessie McPherson Private Hospital from the Royal Children’s Hospital where he has been consulting since 1995. In conjunction with Monash Medical Centre, he is developing a new Adolescent & Adult Congenital Heart Surgery program, for patients who require either initial or on-going surgery of heart defects present since birth.
Physiological Patient Monitoring
Jessie McPherson Private Hospital has purchased an entire new monitoring system for the Cardiac Care Unit. The purchase of the Phillips system has allowed us to increase the number of monitored beds from 16 to 20 and provides a consistent system inline with Southern Health.
Noradrenaline in the High Dependency Unit
The Cardiac Care Unit has successfully introduced Noradrenaline therapy on Cardiothoracic patients in July 2007. This will be reviewed in July 2008 with the view to increase the scope of patients which can be treated using this therapy.
Access to a 320 Slice CT Scanner
Contracts have now been signed confirming the installation of a 320 slice CT scanner for the Cath Lab in mid 2008. This will provide revolutionary non-invasive coronary and cardiac imaging and improve diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities.
All Jessie McPherson Private Hospital operating theatres are staffed with experienced Peri-operative staff and are now running until 1800hrs Monday to Friday.
A second emergency theatre has been staffed to operate Monday to Friday and Saturday and Sunday mornings. This has resulted in increased access for urgent private cases.
